CQC’s changing regulatory framework: key dates for your diary
In December 2022, CQC confirmed that they would be making significant changes to their inspection framework, inspection teams, and the way they communicate with providers (including the launch of a brand new online portal). We were told that we could expect further information on the roll out of these changes this year.
CQC announced on Monday 31 July 2023 how and when providers can expect to be able to access their new portal, and when the new inspection regime will come into force.
We have summarised the announcement, and important dates for your diary, below:
New portal
In..
- August 2023: A group of providers will be invited to trial use of the new portal.
- September 2023: The new portal will be rolled out to all services on a phased basis. You will receive an invitation to use the portal, along with log in details and a user guide.
CQC recommend you ensure that contact details are up to date, to make sure that portal invitations go to the correct individuals within your service.
New inspection regime

- November 2023: CQC will start to inspect services in the South of England using their new assessment framework. It should be noted that, although the framework is changing, CQC’s post-pandemic approach of inspecting services on a risk basis, will continue. Not all services will immediately be inspected using the new regime.Services operating elsewhere in the country will continue to be inspected under the existing framework, and we understand that the roll out will continue to be staged by region. CQC will make announcements as each region moves across to the new regime, so stay tuned for updates.

- March 2024: The inspection regime is expected to be fully rolled out and applicable nationwide.
