Vento bands for 2025/2026

Updated Vento bands have been released by the Presidents of the Employment Tribunals for England & Wales.

From April 2025, the Vento bands of awards for injury to feelings and psychiatric injury have been updated to take account of the Retail Prices Index (RPI) measure of inflation.

The new compensation bands in discrimination and whistleblowing claims will apply to Employment Tribunal cases presented by claimants on or after 6th April 2025.

What are Vento bands?

Vento bands are used to determine the level of awards for injury to feelings and psychiatric injury to remedy the hurt, humiliation and possible degradation suffered by the claimant in discrimination and whistleblowing claims. The bands are considered separately from any additional claims of financial loss, including any loss of earnings.

It is for the Employment Tribunal to determine which Vento band applies in any given case, and where the award should fall within that band.

What are the updated Vento bands?

For claims presented by claimants on or after 6th April 2025, the new Vento bands are as follows:

A lower band of £1,200 to £12,100 (previously up to £11,700) for less serious cases. This includes cases which involve isolated or short-lived incidents of discriminatory treatment with a limited impact on the claimant’s health and well-being.

A middle band of £12,100 to £36,400 (previously up to £35,200) for cases that do not merit an award in the upper band (see below). Such cases include repeated or significant discriminatory treatment that cause a substantial negative impact on the claimant.

An upper band of £36,400 to £60,700 (previously up to £58,700) for the most serious cases. Scenarios include severe and prolonged or long-standing discriminatory behaviour, which have resulted in a severe or potentially long-lasting impact on the claimant.  In the most exceptional cases, the upper band of £60,700 can be exceeded.
