Newsflash: NHS England publishes PCN Development Support Prospectus

NHS England has published a Primary Care Network (PCN) Development Support Prospectus. Aimed at Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships (STPs) and Integrated Care Systems (ICSs), the Prospectus is in two parts:

  • The first part outlines parameters for STPs and ICSs to work within and a process for STPs and ICSs to develop support programmes.
  • The second part sets out key components that should be used as the basis of support for PCNs.

The Prospectus outlines ambitions for PCNs over the next five years, which include stabilising general practice, helping to solve the “capacity gap”, providing a platform for local NHS investment, dissolving the divide between primary and community care and achieving “clear, positive and quantified impacts for people, patients and the wider NHS”.

NHS England is providing funding to ICSs and STPs which is earmarked for PCN development support and PCN Clinical Director support.

The Prospectus sets out development support “domains” which include organisational development support, leadership development support, support for collaborative working, population health management support and social prescribing and community development support.
