Harjit Talwar

Harjit is a strong litigator who works closely with NHS trusts and NHS Resolution handling many of the firm’s most high value and complex clinical negligence claims. She undertakes thorough investigations and is known to go the extra mile to achieve the best results for her clients. She works closely with experts and counsel who speak highly of her. Harjit actively seeks to settle cases at an early stage where possible.

Recent work includes investigation of high value complex spinal injury cases in which liability has been contested. Following early investigations into liability and using experience gained from previous cases, Harjit has been able to achieve financial settlements during the initial phase of proceedings at a significant discount which has meant considerable costs savings to her clients. She has also successfully challenged recent claims involving chronic pain syndrome where settlements were reached far below the levels at which they had been pleaded.

Harjit is also the partner in charge of training trainee solicitors in HCL London and oversees the training and development of more junior fee earners in the HCL team.

She was the senior in-house counsel for the Singapore Medical Council where she was investigating high profile disciplinary cases against doctors. Harjit also co-ordinated a review of the Council’s disciplinary processes vis-a-vis the Medical Councils of the APAC and Commonwealth regions. Harjit has also prosecuted cases of professional misconduct before the General Dental Council. Since joining Hempsons in January 2016, she has been dealing exclusively with clinical negligence claims.

Harjit trained with a leading claimant clinical negligence firm in Manchester prior to completing the end of her training and qualified with a leading defendant clinical negligence firm in 1999. She specialises in healthcare litigation and now focuses on defending clinical negligence claims against the NHS.

Harjit has acted in a wide variety of cases including brain injury, obstetrics/birth injury, spinal injury, gynaecology, neurosurgery, neurology, orthopaedic and dental.
