Surgeon cleared of sexual assault allegations

Stephen Hooper and Adam Smith successfully defended an orthopaedic surgeon charged with sexually assaulting one of his patients in her car.  The complainant alleged that the doctor “examined” her inappropriately in her car following a consultation in hospital.  The doctor denied having touched the patient in her car, although he accepted having examined her in hospital and having spoken to her in the car park and her car, in order to comfort her when she was upset.  The doctor was found not guilty by the jury after a four day trial at Guildford Crown Court.
