GP Acquitted of Gross Negligence Manslaughter and Perverting the Course of Justice

Simon Eastwood and Stephen Hooper, who instructed Zoe Johnson QC and Philip Stott of QEB Hollis Whiteman Chambers, secured the acquittal of a GP charged with Manslaughter by Gross Negligence of a 12-year-old patient who died of Addison’s Disease in late 2012. After the close of the prosecution case, a submission was made that there was no case to answer and that was acceded to by the Judge. The prosecution appealed the ruling and the matter was heard by Leveson LJ in the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division), where the ruling was upheld and the doctor was then formally acquitted.
