Prison health provision is a difficult field.  Seeking to provide equivalent standards of care in prisons as in the community is a challenge for both commissioners and providers.  Integrating the provision of that care with a wide range of  providers in a highly regimented secure setting for a challenging patient population is even more difficult.

With experience of working with PCTs, GPs and mental health trusts as well as detailed knowledge of the working environment and major health issues in prisons we can provide practical and comprehensive advice. Under the Health White Paper responsibility for commissioning prison healthcare will pass to the yet to be set up National Commissioning Board.

We are the lead firm defending the claims against the NHS arising out of drug withdrawal regimes, managing over 500 claims arising from the treatment of opiate dependent prisoners in English prisons from 2004 onwards, including 'systemic' issues, clinical negligence and alleged breaches of human rights.

Our Work

• Advising on issues arising out of prison deaths, advising managers andsupporting professional staff through all stages up to and including jury inquests, without the use of external barristers.
