Kathleen Wilson

What Kathleen can do for you

Since 1992 Kathleen has specialised in handling clinical negligence cases on behalf of NHS trusts and health authorities. She has been responsible for training and supervision within teams since 1996 and worked as an NHSR nominated partner for over 10 years. She now leads on business development within the department including organising training and speaking at seminars for NHS managers and those involved with patient care. Kathleen principally handles cases of maximum severity and complexity including those where it is alleged that babies have acquired cerebral palsy due to their mother receiving negligent obstetric care. She has worked on many cases where multi million pound or periodical payment orders have been awarded. She has also successfully defended such cases. She successfully raised a limitation defence in a cerebral palsy claim with a resultant potential saving for the NHS of well in excess of £3 million and in another case she successfully persuaded the claimant’s solicitors to discontinue shortly before trial. Kathleen’s focus is to identify those cases which should be defended and those which are likely to be unsuccessful should the case be litigated and give appropriate advice to the NHSR and defendant trust with a view to early admissions of liability being made, unnecessary costs avoided and the case being able to progress to timely resolution. Kathleen has handled a number of very sensitive cases involving patients’ suicides including those where allegations have been made that articles two and eight of the Human Rights Act have been breached. Kathleen also advises in regard to serious untoward incidents and homicide inquiries.
